The silver would still be usable but you would have to use a low melting point silver solder. Thanks for the interest in the videos. I will be uploading some more very soon.

An after thought to my first comment. I am aware fine silver and sterling silver have different melting temps. As soon as I would've added sterling silver to the fine silver I would realize the mixture right away obviously. But, what would happen if I continued heating to melt the sterling silver with the fine silver, or would my entire piece be botched?

First of all, your tutorials are great thank you for sharing. I notice you were using various left overs or remnants of silver. I'm assuming those were fine silver, my question is.. If I were to use that same process but maybe accidently mix in sterling silver, what would result in that?

Red tripoli is fine. It sounds like you have 'fire scale' on the surface of the ring. just search for firescale on Google to fing out what it is. You will need to use enery paper to sand it away as it is a layer on the surface of the ring. Once you have got rid of it completely, then repolish the ring using tripoli first then wash the ring, then use rouge on a seperate swansdown mop. Nice idea about a video....watch this sapce

What a fantastic idea!!!! I have a lot of "left overs" ! LOL!! Please, please, please, make a video with instructions on polishing to mirror finish!!! Please!! I managed to make a ring band (it's a miracle I made it!!) using the soldering techniques described in your videos. However, being a complete ignorant, I used red tripoli for polishing and the ring turned to dark grey!! :-(

It was a mini sanding drum. You could always use a split mandrel and wrap a strip of emery paper around it. Or you could always use a buff stick . Glad you liked the video. Have you checked out my other videos?

It was gold solder to join the ends together. The rest of the bangle was heated up to anneal it so when it is tapped round it makes a nice even circle. Glad you liked the video.

Yes you could use the lost wax process or cuttlefish to cast but this would entail more work and also you would need more gold than the client has given. Plus to make a mold would take too long. I made this ring from start to finish in 20 minutes.
